
SUTTON KEANY
Mr. Keany graduated from Yale University magna cum laude
(B.A., 1963) and Harvard Law School (J.D., 1966). He has practiced
law in New York City since 1970. Prior to joining Berger & Webb
in January 2006, Mr. Keany spent 30 years as a partner at Pillsbury
Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and its predecessor partnerships, principally
Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts (1976-2000). He served in
various positions at these firms, including, most recently, several
years as the co-leader of the Antitrust/Competition team.
Mr. Keany is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, the
U.S. Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia, First, Second,
Third, Eighth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuits, as well as the U.S.
District Courts for the District of Arizona, the District of Columbia,
Puerto Rico, and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
He is also admitted to practice in the New York Court of Appeals
and the state courts of New York, as well as in the Tribunal Supremo
de Puerto Rico and the courts of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Mr. Keany is fluent in Spanish.
Mr. Keany is a Certified Mediator and Early Neutral Evaluator for
the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and
has served as an Arbitrator and Corporate Counsel Committee member
for the American Arbitration Association. He is also a member of
The Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the American
Bar Association (Antitrust Section).
He represents clients in complex antitrust, commercial, financial
and industrial litigations and arbitrations, including related appellate
proceedings and he represents clients before the Federal Trade Commission,
Department of Justice (Antitrust Division) and state agencies related
to mergers, joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions.
Non-litigated matters have included the following: representation
of foreign and domestic companies on Hart-Scott-Rodino filings,
investigations, Second Requests and negotiated consent decrees in
multiple fields, representation of clients in Federal Trade Commission
and Department of Justice investigations and negotiation of decrees,
and representation of clients with respect to antitrust grand jury
proceedings.
